Search for friends by clicking on the 'Add' tab, 'Friends' then 'Search for friends'.

Search for groups by clicking on the 'Add' tab, 'Groups' then 'Search for groups'.

In either case, you can enter the name or tags associated with the friend or group that you're looking for.
